How to Prepare Your Home for Pressure Washing

By Thomas Pitts  ยท  June 2026  ยท  4 min read  ยท  New Level Exterior Cleaning โ€” St. Peters, MO

Getting your home professionally pressure washed is one of the easiest home maintenance tasks for a homeowner โ€” because we do the work. But there are a few simple things you can do before we arrive that make the process smoother, faster and ensure the best possible results. Here's exactly what to do.

Before We Arrive: The Quick Checklist

1. Give Us Access to An Outdoor Spigot

This is the only thing we actually need from you. We bring all of our own equipment, hoses and cleaning solutions โ€” but we do need access to one outdoor water spigot (hose bib) at your home. Make sure it's not locked or turned off. If you have multiple spigots, the one closest to the area being cleaned works best.

You don't need to be home during the cleaning โ€” just make sure we can access water and the areas being cleaned.

2. Close All Windows and Doors

Even though soft washing uses low pressure, cleaning solution can mist into the air during application. Close all windows and exterior doors before we begin, including basement windows and garage doors. This is especially important if you have interior door seals that aren't tight.

3. Move Outdoor Furniture and Decorations

Move patio furniture, potted plants, outdoor rugs, grills, toys and any decorative items away from the areas being cleaned. We can work around items if needed, but moving them gives us full access and prevents any accidental contact with cleaning solutions.

If you have potted plants close to the house, move them away from the foundation โ€” our eco-friendly solutions are safe for landscaping in the ground, but concentrated contact with potted plants in small amounts of soil is best avoided.

Good news: We pre-wet and protect all in-ground landscaping before applying any cleaning solutions. Your grass, shrubs and flower beds are safe โ€” but it's always helpful if you let us know about any particularly sensitive plants so we can give them extra attention.

4. Move Vehicles Out of the Driveway

If we're cleaning your driveway, move all vehicles off the surface before we arrive. For house washing, move any cars parked close to the home โ€” not because of pressure, but because cleaning solution overspray can spot vehicle paint if left to dry on the surface.

5. Let Us Know About Any Concerns

When you book, let us know about anything specific: a fragile window screen, a fresh paint job on trim, a delicate flower bed right against the foundation, a loose piece of siding. We'd rather know in advance so we can take extra care in those areas.

Also let us know if there are any areas you want us to focus on โ€” specific stains, problem areas, or spots you've noticed getting worse over time. The more we know going in, the better your results.

After the Cleaning: What to Expect

We send you before and after photos when the job is complete. You can walk around and inspect everything โ€” if anything doesn't look right, let us know immediately and we'll address it. Your satisfaction is guaranteed.

For driveway sealing, stay off the sealed surface for at least 24 hours after application. For soft wash house cleaning, the solution continues to work for a day or two after application โ€” you may notice some residual streaking initially that fully rinses away with the next rain.
